The songlist this year exploded with 8 hours and 17 minutes of 120 songs that take you through sections of PLAY, REWIND, FAST FORWARD, PAUSE and a RETURN TO PLAY. Each section is separated by an instrumental by SYML (Les’ idea!). Listen in order or shuffle it up . . . just press play.
The songs begin as a celebration and grounding in the present moment (PLAY). Nostalgia sets in catapulting you into the past, reliving and regretting, wishing things would have been different or even wishing the “now” was more like then. The past may be a ghost and/or an anchor, either of which lead you away from the moment that is (REWIND).
You shift from rewind to moments of reflection can bring insight and peace. At other times, this practice slowness can grind to a hault, paralysis, as you roominate over life and meaning without moving at the pace of life (PAUSE).
You then move into the future, believing the best you can that you will see better days, that hope is not lost, until of course, you get lost in what will be missing the moments right in front of you (FAST FOWARD).
The “one day” obsession begins to wane, and a gratefulness for what is seeps into your bones. You are returning to the moment, ready to embrace that all that is — the road under your feet is the only thing that truly exists . . . you are ready to say, “THIS IS NOW.”
